Ways to get involved

Campaigning with the public

  • Awareness raising with the public- how about you?
(one off basis - normally on a Saturday from 1 hour of your time or more)

We need lots of people to talk to the public about environmental issues and ask them to support national and international Friends of the Earth campaigns.  This involves talking to the public and asking them to do something - often signing a postcard. These events are normally fun and a good chance to meet people in the group as well as the public.  At the moment we are very active in the national campaigns in Climate Change. This is one of the most common activities for new people to get involved in.

  • Prop making  - how about you?
(one off basis - when ever you like or at monthly Monday evening meetings)
We have an artistic group who have made some amazing banners and props in the past which have enabled us to engage with the public and get media attention. We have a list of ideas or props that could help us with our big ask campaign.  Do you have any practical skills that could help us in this area?

  • Photography  – how about you?
    (one off basis -often Saturdays)

Great campaigns all need them - the right image. You don't need to be a professional, anyone who can take good holiday snaps could help us too. Having a particular person doing this role increases the likelihood of us making the most of our actions and getting some good photos. This in turn can have dramatic impacts on the amount of press coverage for an event.  Could you capture some photos of our next event?

  • Raffles/Competitions organiser  - how about you?
(one off basis - often used on Saturdays, could be created anytime)

We pride ourselves in creating interesting, thought provoking and engaging activities with the public.  We would like to have more tom bolas with small environmentally friendly prizes and fun competitions to help us engage effectively with people. Would you be interested in organising something for one of our regular stalls?

  • Youth Awareness Raising - how about you?
(one off events - during school time, training on a Saturday)

We have always undertaken a certain amount for teaching and youth awareness raising including assisting with the local Children's Parliament. Friends of the Earth provide many resources in this area including an annual shout about pack and training. There would be plenty of scope for anyone interested in youth work to get involved in this area.
