GM links

In this section you will find links to a range of  views both for and against GM. This is to help campaigners gain a broader understanding of some of the issues and be more prepared for some tricky questions. Of course Hammersmith and Fulham FOE do not agree with all the views expressed in these links. For lots of excellent research against the commercialisation of GM Crops in Britain at this time plus campaigning resources see the FOE GM Free Britain site

Seeds of Doubt: North American Farmers' experiences of GM crops
This Soil Association report is the first to reveal the serious widespread impacts of GM crops in North America on the food and farming industry, where three-quarters of the world's GM food is grown. It is the most comprehensive review of the situation to be produced from a non-biotechnology industry perspective.

Evidence has emerged from the UK government’s GM crop trails of widespread gene flow between GM crops and non-GM crops, and between GM crops and wild relatives. The investigation, conducted between 1994 and 2000 by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany and the Laboratory of the Government Chemist , indicate that GM oilseed rape cannot be grown in the UK without massively contaminating non-GM and organic rape. According to the Independent ‘The study is so devastating to the Government’s case for GM crops that ministers sought to bury it by publishing the first information on it on the DEFRA website on Christmas eve. That is the one day in the year when no newspapers are being prepared. Even then, it only produced a heavily edited summary of the main report’Download the report for yourself:
