About us

Successful campaigning

"The Hammersmith and Fulham group have been central to our actions in West London. Their work in Recycling and Fairtrade has been superb for the borough not to mention the work they’ve done for the Big Ask campaign against Climate Change. "
T
ony Juniper, the director of national Friends of the Earth

It’s worth supporting Hammersmith and Fulham Friends of the Earth because we know that our campaigning works.

Here are a few examples:

  • Hammersmith and Fulham Friends of the Earth campaigned with Greenpeace against hardwood  being sold in Wyevale garden centre. Wyevale reacted by immediately removing all Burmese teak garden furniture from the 40 stores in which they were stocked.

  • Hammersmith and Fulham Friends of the Earth led a London-wide Friends of the Earth campaign for the GLA to support a GM-free London. Ken Livingstone has expressed support for this GM-Free London initiative. The London Biodiversity Plan states  “The Mayor will oppose commercial or experimental release of Genetically Modified Organisms into the environment in London”.

  •   We successfully campaigned for a FairTrade borough, which means Hammersmith and Fulham council has a resolution supporting FairTrade, a range of products are readily available in local shops and FairTrade products are used in local workplaces.
