National organisations
sustrans Sustrans is a charity that works on practical projects to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport. It has published a London Action Plan to promote walking and cycling in the capital.
deptransport The Department for Transport's website provides extensive information on government policies to promote sustainable travel, and detailed statistics on all forms of transport.
transport2000 Transport 2000 is the independent national body concerned with sustainable transport. It looks for answers to transport problems and aims to reduce the environmental and social impact of transport by encouraging less use of cars and more use of public transport, walking and cycling.
ctc The Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC) provides technical advice, information, a magazine, cycling related legal aid, insurance, organised tours, specialist mail order, and organises cycling events.

The National Cycling Strategy was established in 1996 to promote cycling in Britain. Overseen by the NCS Board and the Cycling Forum for England (previously the National Cycling Forum), it aims to quadruple the number of cycle trips on 1996 figures by 2012.
